Herrington preparing for first professional fight

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – After a successful amateur run which saw her win gold at the World Championships of Amateur MMA, Jamie Herrington is turning pro. Herrington will be making her pro debut at Fivestar Fight League’s “Relentless” card in Fort St. John in April.

With options at amateur starting to thin out as a consequence to her success the decision to turn pro was an easy one for Herrington as it opens doors to more fight possibilities.

“For as successful as my record has gone in the last year, and the limited amount of fighters that are in Canada alone, to go pro has given us a lot more women wise,” she said. “I’m pretty confident in turning pro. At the end of the day a fight is a fight whether it’s an amateur or a professional. It’s what you know in the cage and what you bring,” she said.

She added that after going on a brief hiatus after her gold medal win in Las Vegas she resumed training last year with a focus on becoming a more well rounded fighter.

“I took a little bit of a break after the world championships just to get back into work mode and normal life. I got back into training in late October and have been going constantly working my hand game and stand up and hopefully I’ll be more than ready come April,” she said.

Another change for Herrington aside from turning pro is fighting at a lower weight class. She’ll be fighting at 125 pounds, down from her past fights of competing at either 135 or 145.
