FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — For the City’s annual financial report, the Canadian Award for Financial Reporting has been bestowed upon the City of Fort St. John, by the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada — or GFOA for short.

This award was established to encourage municipal governments throughout Canada to publish high quality financial reports and to provide peer recognition and technical guidance for officials preparing these reports.

This attainment, the City says, represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.

Mindy Smith, General Manager of Corporate Services said achieving this award in the first year of applying is a significant achievement.

“We are very proud of our collective staff efforts,” she stated.

The report has been judged by impartial Canadian Review Committee members to meet the standards of the program, including demonstrating a constructive ‘spirit of full disclosure’ designed to communicate the municipality’s financial story, and to motivate potential users and user groups to read the report.

GFOA serves over 18,000 government finance professionals in the United States and Canada.
