B.C., Quebec only two provinces with gas prices average over dollar mark

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — With the price of crude oil still struggling to stay above $30 a barrel U-S, the cross-Canada retail price of gasoline continues to fall, with the national average down early today to 94.3 cents a litre.

However a local early this morning monitor revealed no evidence the latest three cent drop in Fort St. John was either the across-the-board or the common price in the city.

At a 105.9 cents a litre, it was still the posted price at only two filling stations — the Petro-Canada and Safeway outlets at the opposite ends of 100 street.

In addition, even at that level, it had failed to catch up to the falling provincial average which was down to a 104.7, and it was still three cents higher than the average in Quebec — the only other province with an average above a dollar.

Alberta’s low end average had slipped to 81.8 cents a litre, four and a half cents lower than Saskatchewan’s, and all three Prairie Provinces, along with Ontario and New Brunswick, were still below 95 cents.

The GasBuddy monitor also had the low end price in the country still in the Edmonton area, but down to 71.2 cents, and nearly 15 cents a liter less than the best consumer price in BC, of 85.9 cents at the Prince George Costco.

It should be noted however, that price made the provincial price differential a whopping 64 cents a litre, as the top end price in this province was still a 149.9 at the Driftwood Auto & Marine Centre on Pender Island in Georgia Straight.

Here in the BC Peace, Dawson Creek still featured the lowest prices, with two filling stations down to 97.9 cents, and all the outlets on a ten station monitor in that city, below a dollar a litre.

Two outlets in Tumbler Ridge got the region’s high end honors with 115.9 in the GasBuddy survey.
