Province opposing Trans Mountain expansion until crucial requirements are met

VICTORIA, B.C. — The provincial government says they can’t support Kinder Morgan’s $6.8 billion Trans Canada Mountain Expansion project until they know all five crucial requirements are addressed and met, as they go on to submit their final argument to the company.

In 2012, the provincial government established these five requirements, ranging from oil spill response to recognition of Aboriginal/treaty rights.

During the course of the NEB review, the province says Kinder Morgan hasn’t provided enough information around its proposed spill prevention and response for the Province to determine if it would use a world leading spills regime — thus, they have failed to meet all of the requirements.

Because of this and based on the evidence submitted, the Province says it is unable to support the project at this time.
