Trudeau deemed top newsmaker of 2015 by Canadian Press

OTTAWA, O.N. — The votes are in, and the Canadian Press says Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is the top newsmaker of the year.

He was the choice of 87 per cent of news directors and editors across the country who voted.

Trudeau was surrounded by a media frenzy after winning the Oct. 19 election and bringing a Liberal majority government with him to parliament.

His closest rival for the top honour was Alberta Premier Rachel Notley, who gathered seven per cent of the votes.

She was the subject of headlines following her election to office, ending four decades of a Conservative government in the Province and bringing in an NDP government.

Three-year-old Syrian refugee Alan Kurdi, whose body washed up on a Turkish beach, was one vote behind Notley.
