During Monday’s City Council meeting, the Fort St. John Metis Society’s Jacqueline Alderking received the city’s proclamation to recognize November 16th as Louis Riel Day.

Louis Riel, a prominent figure in Metis history, was hanged on that same day in 1885. In Manitoba, where he is considered a founder of the province, Louis Riel Day is the third Monday of February.

The Metis Society has asked the City to fly the Metis flag on the 16th in honour of Louis Riel.

There will be entertainment, including the music of fiddler Eric Ashdown and Les Davis, and traditional food will also be served.
