Regional District residents reject both referendum votes

Residents of the Regional District have rejected plans to fund a domestic sewage receiving facility and create more potable water options.

In areas B and C, 932 people voted with 420 saying yes to funding the domestic sewage receiving facility and 510 voted no. There were two spoiled or rejected ballots. Only 12 per cent of the eligible voters cast a ballot.

In areas B, C and D, 1,466 people voted with 701 saying yes to a potable water service, but 763 said no. There were also two rejected ballots. Only 13 per cent of the eligible voters cast a ballot.

The Regional District had to hoped to raise $2 million per year to build new potable water systems in areas B, C and D if the referendum was approved.

The second vote was about funding a new sewage receiving facility. The District was able to fund constructing using Fair Share money, but needed the extra money to fund the yearly operating costs.
