Dawson Creek Council has announced that their new Automated Residential Waste Collection System will commence the week of October 19th.

Mayor Dale Bumstead says he is happy automated collection has come to Dawson Creek. “This new system will provide residents with the continued reliable garbage collection service they expect and using standardized containers will regulate garbage volumes entering the landfill and limit the garbage that escapes the container and ends up on the streets.”

The new carts will be delivered to each residence starting next week. Each account will receive one cart at no cost.

The city is asking that the original containers be kept until October 19th, when the truck required for automated collection will be in service.

They say it is very important that the new carts not be placed on the curb until the neighbourhood’s regularly scheduled day during the week of October 19.

Residents are also asked to read the leaflet provided with the cart about how the new service will work, including tips on proper placement of the cart on collection day.

This announcement comes as Fort St. John gets ready to incorporate recycling into the collection schedule.
