Man did not receive ‘serious harm’ in arrest, IIOBC determines

Following reports of a man allegedly being injured during arrest in Chetwynd this past June, the Independent Investigations office of British Columbia investigated the case.

On Friday, Kellie Kilpatrick of IIOBC confirmed that he did not meet the requirements for ‘serious harm.’

The Police Act defines serious harm as ‘injury that may result in death; may cause serious disfigurement or may cause substantial loss or impairment of mobility of the body as a whole or of the function of any limb or organ.’

Because this turned out to be false, Kilpatrick said the man did not ‘sustain jurisdiction.’
