Forest fire near Prophet River grows to 1,800 hectares

The forest fire near Prophet River in the Klua Lakes protected area has grown in size to 1,800 hectares. An evacuation alert remains in effect for the area including Prophet River.

The fire is 14 kilometres east of the Alaska Highway and Prophet River. At this time, it is not affecting highway traffic.

A crew of workers is heading up to the site to join those already on hand battling the fire.

A spokesperson with the Prince George Fire Centre said the fire is still growing, albeit not at a significant rate.
