Nomination package available for 8th Annual Fort St. John Community Awards

“There are a lot of organizations that do things for the community and they are not always on the front page of the paper or getting the spotlight,” Councillor Byron Stewart explains of the award’s purpose. “But they continue to do their day-in-day-out, year-in-year-out, and we want to know about them; we want the community to know about them and be recognized.”

Categories for this year’s award ceremony include the Cultural Award, Recreation Award, Literacy Award, Humanitarian Award, Youth Award, and the Mayor’s Citizen of the Year.

Each category can be entered as an individual or group – except for the Mayor’s Citizen of the Year.

“The Mayor chooses a person who has represented our community on a higher level stage and brought attention back to our community in a positive way,” says Councillor Stewart.

This is the third year the award ceremony is being held at the Lido Theatre.

“Each year its packed full [and] energy is high,” Councillor Stewart goes on to say. “People enjoy dressing up for an event and going to a gala event that is meant to honour some highly respected persons in our community.”

The deadline for nomination package submission  is March 13, 2015, and can be found on the city’s webpage, at City Hall, the North Peace Leisure Pool, the Pomeroy Sport Centre, and the Lido Theatre.

Tickets – which can be purchased at any of the above institutions – are going for a price of $20.00 for youth 19 and under, as well as seniors. General admission is $30.00 a piece.

The 8th Annual Community Awards will be held at the Lido Theatre, 10156 100 Avenue, on April 16, 2015. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the event will begin at 7:30 p.m.

“I want to encourage you, and anyone you know to consider filling a nomination on someone who you think is deserving of some recognition,” Councillor Stewart concludes.
