Apartment fire in western Quebec sends 5 to hospital

LES COTEAUX, Que. — Five people were seriously injured early Tuesday in an apartment building fire in western Quebec.

The fire broke out at about 2:30 a.m. in the community of Les Coteaux near the Ontario border.

According to a regional fire official, the two adults and three children were unconscious when they were removed and transported to hospital.

There was no immediate word on their condition.

The fire was extinguished by 6 a.m.

Quebec provincial police are taking part in the investigation.
