Share a Bear with FSJ residents in need thanks to B.C. Liquor Stores

“Due to the generosity of the citizens of Fort St. John, we have been number one for the last 11 years,” Senior Manager of the Fort St. John branch, Shannon Mackay writes in an emailed response. “Dawson Creek liquor store is our local competition, and as we strive to exceed our goal of last year’s sale of 2,400 bears, we will be keeping a close eye on [the] Dawson Creek store.”

Here’s how the program works. Customers at the local government liquor stores purchase a ‘Share Bear,’ and a twin of that stuffed animal is donated to a local charity. Customers also have the option of donating their bear back into the twin pile.

Some local charities that are benefiting include, but are not limited to victim services, the ambulance and fire department, the Salvation Army, North Peace Community Resources, and the Fort St. John Hospital.

“Recipients are people in need, sick patients and accident victims to name a few,” Mackay goes on to write.

You can purchase your Share Bear at the Fort St. John B.C. Liquor Store, located on 10444 100 Street, for a cost of $12.00 each.

“As we also keep our eye on a prize for the most sold bears, the real prize is the participation in the program for those in Fort St. John who benefit from a Share Bear,” Mackay concludes
