Jake Lane takes 2014 Boston Pizza Junior Open

Lakepoint General Manager Troy Knight said the event was part of the Peace Country Junior Tour and many golfers from the area and Grande Prairie teed off this morning.

“We had our junior open today which was comprised of some local kids plus quite a group came down from Grande Prairie. We were part of the Peace Country Junior Tour which is a tour that they’ve put together for the northern part of Alberta and B.C. so those kids that are included in that tour are playing for status and points,” he said.

This year’s tournament had much higher participation numbers than last year which was encouraging to see for Knight as he explained that younger people need to be exposed to the game.

“We’re at a state with golf that we’ve got to attract the young kids so it was great to see a mix of ages 8-18 here and they’re all excited for golf and that’s exactly what we need. A lot of them were dressed like their favourite tour players so it’s cool to see the excitement for the game,” he stated.

Below are the overall results from the event:

Junior Boys Champion – Jake Lane – 69

Net Champion – Kyle Kimmie

Second Gross – Alex Hartman & Chris MacKay – 75
