RCMP officer dragged during high speed pursuit near Chetwynd

Officers saw the driver throw a beer can out the window of the vehicle and a traffic stop was then initiated.

The driver was a male in his early 50’s who is known to police. The driver was detained for an impaired investigation when he fled from police on foot and jumped back into his vehicle.

A Chetwynd RCMP officer then attempted to stop the driver but ended up being dragged along side the vehicle for 30 yards as the driver held onto the RCMP officers arm.

The officer was able to break free and was not seriously injured. 


A pursuit was then initiated by the Chetwynd RCMP. During the pursuit, the suspect rammed a police vehicle head on and caused serious concern for the riders participating in the Cops for Cancer Bicycle Tour.

The Cops for Cancer Tour was entering Chetwynd after leaving Fort St. John earlier in the day, at the same time the pursuit entered Chetwynd. No one participating in the tour was injured.

The suspect was captured after the head on collision and is currently being held by the Chetwynd RCMP on several criminal code offences.
