Marchand is charged with manslaughter and assault causing bodily harm after 39 year old Ball suffered extreme brain damage when he was beaten on the corner of 100th and 100th at 2:43 a.m. on July 22, 2012. He later died when he was taken off life support on August 2.Â

Marchand heads to trial alone, as assault causing bodily harm charges were stayed against previously co-accused Willy Ted Metcalfe in February.
