Unemployment rate remains steady in Northeast B.C.

According to numbers released yesterday, 39,700 people were working in January, compared to 40,600 in December. In January 2012, the number of people working was 38,600.
This region still has the lowest unemployment rate in the Province. The Kootenay region has the highest unemployment rate in the Province at 7.8 per cent.
The Provincial rate increased to 6.3 per cent from 6.0 in December as the Province lost 16,000 jobs. Nationally, the unemployment rate dropped to 7.0 from 7.1.
