The event kicked off with speeches by Mayor Lori Ackerman, Senator Richard Neufeld and Shell Canada representative Bryant Bird.

Later this evening the Ladies Bonspiel tournament will begin at the curling club, along with the Rogers Old Timer's hockey tournament at the Pomeroy Sport Centre. Residents can also enjoy the first of three "Laugh Your Ice Off" comedy shows at the Lido Theatre, and families can take part in Family Fun Night at Centennial Park from 6 to 8 p.m.
