The Huskies will start off their weekend with a rematch, as they played their last game versus the Sexsmith Vipers (8-21-0), a team that currently occupies last place in the NWJHL standings.
In their last meeting, not only did Fort St. John earn their second straight victory, but they did so in dramatic fashion, shutting out the Vipers 5-0 for the team’s first shutout victory of the season.
Travis McLean made 16 saves for his first shutout of the year, while Robbie Sidhu scored the game-winner, his team leading 16 goal of the season.
With the win, the Huskies evened up the season series with the Vipers, with each team winning twice so far, leaving Friday’s game to determine who takes the season series lead.
Following Friday’s road game, the Huskies will be back in the comforts of the North Peace Arena, where they will welcome the Beaverlodge Blades for a Saturday evening tilt.
Saturday will be the fourth meeting between the Blades and the Huskies, with the Huskies leading the season series 2-1, courtesy of an 8-6 win in Beaverlodge on October 20, followed by a 8-5 home win on November 10.
The Blades took the last game 5-2 back on December 14, played on their ice in Beaverlodge.
It’s a big weekend in the standings with four points on the line, as the Huskies look to climb the ranks in the North West Junior Hockey League standings. They currently sit tied for sixth with the Blades, each with 20 points, while also looking to gain separation from the last place Vipers, who have 16 points on the season.
