Fracking versus earthquakes discussed at next Chamber luncheon

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

According to the Chamber's advance news release on the meeting, 31 seismic events were recorded in northeast B.C. between April of 2009 and July of 2011, and another seven in a six day period ending on December 13th of 2011.

It confirms the event magnitudes were small, ranging from 2.2 to 3.8, but it also says a search of the areas in question, in the National Earthquake Database from 1985 to present, shows no detected seismic activity in the Horn River Basin prior to 2009.

Thus, among other things, Heffernan is expected to examine the available evidence, to determine if there may be a linkage between these observed events and oil and gas activities in the region in the last four years.
