McLeod says the meeting went well, saying progress was made on activities on his recently purchased land.
“We’ve got an indoor arena coming. We are going to spread some dirt this fall yet and get our rodeo ground area cleared off.”
He says he has also been in touch with the World Professional Chuckwagon Association, saying there are already talks about hosting a rodeo in 2014, which he believes could take place following the Grande Prairie Stompede.
McLeod says the next task on the docket will be a meeting with the Peace River Regional District, as well as Fort St. John Mayor Lori Ackerman, to discuss rezoning the land to C4 Service Commercial.
Talks have also been initiated with the Canadian Professional Rodeo Association, which says exact dates for the upcoming rodeo will be reviewed and provided to Terry this coming week.
McLeod also says that the new fairgrounds will require a new name and wants the public to help in creating one. He says the name should relate to our northern community, and should represent the Peace Region.
Name ideas can be submitted to firstname.lastname@example.org.
Once a name is established, McLeod says he will create a Facebook page, providing information updates on the status of the new rodeo ground.
