The money is going towards fields like nautical training, forestry boot camp, health care assistant, heavy equipment operators and mining technicians. At NLC, it will fund seats in the following programs: a seven month Clean Energy Certificate, a three month Heavy Equipment Operator program, a one month Professional Oil Field Driver course, a three week Oilfield/Gasfield Bootcamp Training course, a 12 week Mining Fundamentals program and a four month Professional Office Skills course. Emphasis is placed on programs that provide students with provincially or industry recognized credentials.

The seats have been created under the Employment Skills Access program, which provides eligible British Columbians with tuition-free training for programs for industries that are currently experiencing labour or skills shortages. Participants in the programs must be unemployed and have not filed an Employment Insurance claim in the past three years.
