Fort St. John walking to help four-legged friends
This year, Fort St. John will join 33 B.C. communities, in walking to raise $1 million in support of our province's vulnerable animals.
The South Peace SPCA has also challenged the North Peace SPCA to see who can raise the most money for their shelter before September 9, with a goal of $15,000.
Farrah Rooney, manager of fundraising events at the B.C. SPCA, says the beneficial event is often a great day for every person and animal involved.
"This is the largest single event supporting animals in B.C. Participants are already signing up and will be fundraising in their own communities all summer long. The creativity and passion that people show in their fundraising efforts each year is absolutely inspiring and the walks are always so much fun for both the two-legged and four-legged participants."
Locally, the walk will be held at Centennial Park Sunday, September 9, with the event beginning at 11 a.m. and the walk starting at 1 p.m.
Registration is free of charge to walk and participants will be provided with entertainment, activities, refreshments and prizes.
Fundraisers are provided with the option to join either as an individual, or as a team, both of which are eligible to win a wide variety of prizes.
Top fundraisers will have the ability to win an incredible trip to the Okanagan, among many other great prizes. Those 17 and under are also automatically entered to win a Playstation Vita console.
As an extra incentive to fundraisers, every $100 dollars raised before September 8, will receive one entry to win a new Apple iPad.
