Fort St. John helicopter crashes near Terrace
According to the owner, the chopper was overdue on a training mission.
A Buffalo aircraft and a search helicopter were dispatched by the Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre in Victoria, after receiving an emergency locator transmission at approximately 9 a.m. The crash site is located 20 kilometres west of Terrace on the western slope of Sleeping Beauty Mountain.
The CBC says the AStar helicopter is a single-engine, five-person aircraft manufactured by Aerospatiale.
Bailey Helicopters has its headquarters in Fort St. John and has bases in Fort Nelson and Dawson Creek. It also recently opened a base in Terrace.
At this point it is unknown who was on the aircraft, and what caused the crash. We will update when we receive more information.
