Council votes to enforce parking tickets

Council authorized that any parking tickets issued up to Dec. 31, 2011, which remain unpaid after July 31, 2012 be submitted to a collection agency.

Monday’s meeting also saw the authorization that a 15 per cent discount for the payment of outstanding parking tickets between the same dates as above be set aside for and donated to the City’s Toys for Tickets program.

The new collection process will have a letter sent to the registered owner of the vehicle within two months of the infraction date, requesting payments and advising that unpaid tickets will be submitted to a collection agency for action.

In the fourth month from the date of the infraction, another letter requesting payment will be sent, advising that if payment is not received within 30 days, the debt will be forwarded to a collection agency.

Effective August 1, 2012, all outstanding parking tickets will be sent to a collection agency.
