New career information tour catering to youth

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

The event is a rock-concert themed mobile event, created with the intention to get youth and young adults excited about their future, while also informing them about the various resources and tools developed by the government to support their search for an ideal career.

The event also provides analytic help to those interested in selecting an ideal career with good employment prospects.

The traveling exhibit will feature a rock band, a variety of local community talent as well as a list of speakers. The layout will include two giant tents, one which showcases the career resources and tools, the other set up as an interactive temporary tattoo parlour, where people can select a temporary tattoo of their chosen career, and listen to a short presentation about that career while having the tattoo applied.

Pat Bell, Minister of Jobs, Tourism and Innovation, talks about the importance of this type of tour.

"British Columbia’s youth are vital to our economic future, and it’s important that they have access to the information needed to make a smart decision about their future career. JobFest brings labour market and career information, tools and resources to them, and delivers it in a fun and engaging way."

The tour will officially kick off Wednesday, April 18 in Abbotsford, during the Skills Canada B.C. provincial competition. It will begin its Northern B.C. tour at the beginning of July, making a stop in Fort St. John Tuesday, June 5, Dawson Creek on Friday, June 8 and finally wrapping up its Peace Region tour in Chetwynd on Sunday, June 10.
