International Women's Day aims to connect women
On March 8, 2012, the North Peace Cultural Centre is holding a breakfast from 7 – 9 a.m. Women can eat, enjoy some entertainment from local artists as well as network with other local ladies. Tickets cost $5 each and can be purchased by contacting Lindsay at North Peace Community Resources Society at 250-785-6021.
Later that afternoon North Peace Secondary School is hosting a panel discussion and luncheon for its female student body. 10 different local women from various backgrounds will discuss their careers, interests, challenges, choices, and what has inspired them to be where and who they are now. These will include everyone from professionals, to artists and oil patch workers, and even Mayor Lori Ackerman. Based on biographies of the speakers, female students have prepared a range of their own questions for the panel. The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and refreshments will be served to all in attendance.
International Women's Day is celebrated on March 8th around the world each year. Although the focus can change from year to year, the event is always about putting women and women’s rights to equality on the global agenda and acts as an opportunity to pay tribute to the achievements of women and highlight the needs of women around the world. This year's theme is "Connecting Girls, Inspiring Futures", something the NPSS panel aims to do.
