St. Jean’s victory came down to the wire, narrowly crossing the finish line first while holding off a charge from both Kevin Shaw and Gary Hilderman, beating the two by literally a couple of inches.

The group finished the 17 kilometre race with a time of 38:20 minutes.

Sunday’s race also included a rookie rider, as Ashley Zeuch took part in her first road race with the club. Zeuch finished her first race ever at a time of 49:02 minutes.

Following the Blizzard Bike Club’s season opening race, members will have a week to recover before racing in the next scheduled race. The club’s upcoming race will be held Sunday, March 11 for the first of the three race ‘Roubaix Cup Series.’

For members or anyone looking to keep their legs fresh, the club will be holding a couple more turbo training sessions Tuesday and Thursday at 7:30 p.m. The sessions will be held at Ferris Fast Cycles.

This year the Blizzard Bike Club will be celebrating its 30th year in existence, as cycling enthusiasts started it back in 1983.
