The Dawson Creek RCMP report that five family pets had been recently reported stolen to police, but upon further inquiry, police learned that as many as 12 to 15 pet thefts have been reported to other agencies such as veterinary clinics and the South Peace SPCA. An investigation indicates that the rash of thefts has been widespread to sites including Bear Mountain, Tomslake, Rolla, and neighbourhoods in Dawson Creek.

All of the dogs reported stolen so far have been medium to large-sized breeds of a gentle temperament. So far, a motive behind these crimes is not known.

A joint investigation between police and the SPCA is ongoing. Anyone with information on these incidents is asked to call the Dawson Creek RCMP at (250) 784-3721, or phone Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
