This holiday season, all of our Supporters are entered to win an $800 Shopping Spree Giveaway!

The company’s $5,000 donation will be used to purchase benches for parents, shelving units for boots and coats, baby change tables for the bathrooms and infant/toddler slides and toys, said Heidy Kux-Kardos, coordinator for Success By 6 and Children First in the South Peace. She added they will also hire a local artist to paint a mural with an outdoors theme on the walls surrounding the playground.

The Kiwanis Early Learning Hub officially opened last Thursday, and is a centre for programs and services for preschool children and their families. With the addition of the new playground inside, Dawson Creek now has two public, indoor playgrounds for 0-6 year olds to burn off energy during the long winter months, with the other constructed in the lobby of the Kenn Borek Aquatic Centre earlier this year. Both of those playgrounds were funded through the efforts of the South Peace Success By 6 and Children First Table, which is funded through the Ministry of Children and Family Development, in partnership with the United Way and the Credit Unions of BC.

“A year ago we didn’t have one indoor playground, and now we have two!” said Kux-Kardos, adding that it took four years to fundraise the nearly $60,000 needed for the two playgrounds and to find appropriate venues for both.

She added her organization will be looking to add more elements to the playground inside the aquatic centre in the next few months.
