A retired plumber, Pope currently sits as Minister of Economic Development and Northeast Regional Director of Métis Nation B.C. Pope says his relationship with most of the Treaty 8, knowing most of the chiefs, would be beneficial to council.

As aboriginals are the fastest growing population in Canada, Pope, who is Métis, argues it's important to have respresentation on council.

"As part of my role as Aboriginal, and if I'm successful as a councillor, certainly would be helping bring that forward a little more."

Pope has many ideas about how to better the city, including having a water steward in town, expanding the farmer's market and improving services from the airport. Like other candidates, he wants to focus on bringing people to our city and market it as something other than being in the middle of nowhere with cold winters.

"The big thing is to be part of the change, to see the city move forward and at some point down the road be able to say 'yes, I was part of the city council that helped bring Fort St. John forward even more."

Anyone else looking to be part of the change has until 4:00 this afternoon to hand in their nominations.
