They'll also get the chance to check out the Fire Safety House.
Their escape plans will be put to the test on Thursday, when the Fire Department will blast the air raid siren at the Hall, and encourage families to practice them. This year they will be driving through the Duncan Cran and Mathew's Park area. Children will be given prizes and reading materials once they've successfully "escaped". The exercise isn't just meant for families; adults should practice their escape plan too.
The week wraps up on Saturday, October 15 will a parade and BBQ. The parade will leave the Fire Hall at 11:00 am and will head north on 98 St. to 108 Ave., to 100 St. and down to 93 Ave. ending at the Canadian Tire parking lot.
There will be a simulation of how quickly a fire can develop in a bedroom, and some smoke detectors will be given out to those who don't have one. Proceeds from the barbecue will be given to the BC Professional Firefighters Burn Fund.
At around 1:30 – 2:00 p.m. the firefighters will draw for the Fire Chief for the Day. Kids will have the chance to enter the draw at their school. The Fire Chief for the Day will get a set of kid's firefighting gear, and will be taken to school in the ladder truck. At lunch they and their friends will be picked up and taken to the Fire Hall to have lunch with the mayor, the Fire Chief and the crew. After school they'll get a tour around the city.
