The first proclaims October 3rd to 9th, 2011 as United Way Week in Fort St. John.
United Way Northern B.C. is a non-profit organization that serves the northern 2/3 of the province. It provides services and programs that intend to inprove the quality of a community.
Before the week begins, UWNBC is holding a Fire Truck Pull in Fort St. John on September 24th to kick off their Community Campaign to raise awareness and funds.
Secondly, council proclaimed October 17th to 23rd, 2011 to be Canada World Youth Week in the city.
Canada World Youth gives opportunities to young people in the country to take part in leadership programs and volunteering around the world. CWY is planning celebrations in all of its participating communities during this time.
Lastly, October 9th to 15th, 2011 has been declared Fire Prevention Week. The theme this year is “Protect your family from fire.”
The Fort St. John Fire Department says several fires over the past couple of years have cost the city millions. This year’s celebration will include a live broadcast by Moose FM at the fire hall and a family fire drill.
Usually the parade is held at the beginning of the week, but due to the conflict with Thanksgiving, it will be held at the end of the week instead on Saturday October 15th ending at Canadian Tire.
