There’s a new preschool in Fort St. John and it promises to be a unique experience for everyone involved.
Opening in the fall, the Play Arts Preschool will aim to get preschoolers ready for school by immersing them in various disciplines like fine arts, dance, music, drama, cooking, Spanish and even yoga.
Organizer Susan McGarvey saw a need in the community for preschoolers and decided to take a new appraoch. She says that once the idea was in the air, things have started to really shape up for the school, in many different ways.
For instance, the school has hired a few local artists to help ensure the children get the best experience possible.
Clarice Eckford, a local professional actress, will be helping with many of the dramatic duties, while Dave Tolley, a local professional musician, will be helping the kids with various musical programs.
While a fine arts preschool is a relatively unknown idea in the Peace, there are a number these programs within the province and country, with many positive benefits being found from studies around that type of schooling, according to a report done by the University of California.
So far the program is only accepting 20 children at a time, but are still accepting students for the fall. To register, or more information, please call Susan at 250-785-1992, email her at firstname.lastname@example.org, or stop by the main office located inside the Cultural Center.
