Lightning starts fires in the Fort Nelson region
A storm that moved through the Fort Nelson region Thursday started 13 new forest fires.
The Prince George Fire Centre responded to 13 fires all caused by lightning. The largest reached 20 hectares in size and required air tanker support. No structures have been damaged and a large amount of rain in the area has helped to fight these fires, with more rain expected.
The fire danger rating through the Prince George Fire Centre is mainly very low to low.
However, there are areas of moderate to high in the northern portion of the fire centre.
There are currently no open burning restrictions within the Prince George Fire Centre’s jurisdiction. However, the public is urged to be extremely cautious when using fire outdoors. For the latest on burning restrictions, continue to check: http://bcwildfire.ca/hprScripts/WildfireNews/Bans.asp
