Rain set to break records
Â
A rainfall warning for the Peace River Region is still in effect and the total amount of precipitation recorded at the airport is now well past the local area June average of 71.4 millimetres.
While there are varying reports, with some as high as 50 mm, Thursday’s official total, up to 11 p.m. , was 20.8 mm.
Thus, the unofficial monthly total is at 81.3 mm, but will almost certainly be much higher by month’s end, which is one week away.
Environment Canada is predicting 20 to 40 mm will fall Friday and its top end prediction for areas near the mountains is 55 mm.
The all-time local area record total for the month of June is 110.5 mm, which was set in 1936.
That now seems well within reach, although it would take another 35 mm on top of that, to match the alltime record for any month, which was set in July 1939 at 145.5.
However, there is one total that this storm is not likely to threaten and that’s the June 27, all-time one-day record of 80.3 mm set in 1965.
