Representatives of the local aboriginal community and Treaty 8 took to the streets of Fort St. John, Tuesday, to march in celebration of National Aboriginal Day.

Tribal Chief Liz Logan says the march is done to raise awareness of the aboriginal communities in the area.

Logan says the day is also a particularly special one for the Tribal Association, since not only is it the summer solstice – a day that means a lot to her people – it is also the anniversary of the signing of Treaty 8.

The march began at the Treaty 8 Tribal Association in Fort St. John, with several people carrying different flags and signs representing the various First Nations communities in Northeast B.C.

The march finished at the Fort St. John Friendship Centre where bannock and soups were being served.
