Father's Day demo derby a smash

Muddy and rainy conditions did not deter people from having a demolition-filled Father’s Day.
 
On Sunday, the Taylor Speedway held the 16th annual Father’s Day Demolition Derby full of destruction.
 
The afternoon festivities included a number of demolition derby heats, for both male and female participants. The female portion of the competition, known as the Powder Puffs, kicked off the event with two heats of six drivers per heat.
 
The first Powder Puff heat was won by Bonnie Avey in car # 11, earning her a $100 prize. Second place went to Meranda Devrocher in car #19 and third place went to Kristine Budac in car # 88.
 
The second Powder Puff heat was taken by Miranda Casavant in car #48. Kirstal Kalas took second place driving car # 22 and Corlee Krahn took third in car #4.
 
Each of the Powder Puff winners took home a cash prize of $100.
 
The main event consisted of two qualifying heats, with the top three drivers from each qualifier given a spot in the finals. The final heat was won by Jarret Bonn, driving car #19. Second place went to car # 47, driven by Dave Lawton Sr. and Bud Talbot was third driving car #74.
 
For winning the main event, Jarret Bonn took home a cash prize of $1,000. 
 
The Taylor Speedway’s next event will be the Fort St. John Stock Car Club Babcock Memorial Race Weekend, taking place Saturday June 25 and Sunday June 26. Saturday’s event will begin at 3 p.m., while Sunday’s will begin at 1 p.m.
