Newly elected Conservative Member of Parliament Bob Zimmer has had his official swearing in as a member of the House of Commons.
On Friday, the Prince George- Peace River riding MP was joined by his family on Parliament Hill in Ottawa to take an oath and sign a special book of MP signatures.
Zimmer called the whole experience “cool” and says one of his favourite parts was being able to go into the House of Commons, not as a spectator, but as an MP.
However, he says being on the Hill, he realized the tremendous responsibility he now holds.

Zimmer says although the riding is geographically distant from Ottawa, he will be staying in touch with local constituents to understand and present their wants and needs in the House.
After less than a month on the job, he says MPs have been bombarded with a lot of information, but there are still some things that need to be arranged such as phones, an Ottawa office and constituency offices. However, he says both offices in Fort St. John and Prince George should be set up within the next few weeks and will be located in central, downtown areas that are easily accessible to the public.
