Spectra Energy has reported a hydrogen sulphide (H2S) leak near Chetwynd

The leak reportedly occurred Tuesday afternoon at an acid gas injector on a Talisman site on the Sukunka Road. Spectra officials say the leak was detected at 3:45 p.m. in an isolated area.

They say although there was no gas in the pipeline at the time, the emergency shutdown was immediately initiated and the pipeline and injector well were cut off.

They also say workers monitored air quality along the road overnight, while also notifying drivers about the detected leak. The road was not closed since they say no gas was detected.

Hydrogen sulphide is a main component of sour gas and the compound which makes it highly toxic.

Spectra says all provincial bodies were notified and the incident will be reviewed by regulatory agencies.
