UPDATE Black smoke coming from fire behind Rona

UPDATE Fort St. John Fire Chief Fred Burrows says the fire was discovered to be a controlled burn. The crews that had started the fire had informed the Ministry of the Environment and the Charlie Lake Fire Chief – as the fire is within the Charlie Lake boundary – fefore starting the fire.
Burrows says emergency crews responded because they had gotten several calls from residents that saw the black smoke.

Not much is known about a fire burning off the Old Fort Road behind Rona in Fort St. John.
There is a considerable amount of black smoke in the area.
The fire appears to have started in a pile of trees that were cleared.
Emergency crews are currently on scene.
It’s not known whether the fire was accidental or intentially set.
