After a strong finish to the regular season, the Petroleum Association Midget Flyers will enter the playoffs in first place.
Top spot in the league came as a result of a 5-0 victory over the Fairview Kings, which took place Sunday at the Pomeroy Sport Centre. The game was significant regarding the standings, as the winner would enter the post season ranked first.
The Flyers were aware of these circumstances and came out of the gate flying, scoring twice before the midway point of the first. The team continued to pour on the pressure in the second, scoring three more times. The boys shut it down defensively in the third period, preserving the 5-0 shutout.
Leading the way offensively for the Flyers was Tanner Moulton, who scored twice for his team and Blair Karasiuk, who had himself a three assist game.
The Flyers even faced a bit of adversity, as they were short defensemen for the game. Although, forward Cayle Bell dropped back to play defense, helping his team earn the shutout. He even contributed offensively with an assist.
Ryan Bueckert was solid in between the pipes, earning the shutout for his team.
The first placed Flyers will begin their post season run against the rival Dawson Creek Canucks. More information on their schedule will be released when the information presents itself.
