Fort St. John RCMP are searching for suspects after several early Monday morning break-ins around Charlie Lake.
Â
Police say several sheds and garages were broken into on Paradise St. and Bens Rd.
Â
They say several items were stolen from garages and sheds, including a newer model snowmobile that was taken from an unlocked detached garage. However, it was later found only a short distance from the area.
Â
As well, they say suspects stole electronics and other valuables from numerous unlocked vehicles, motor homes and recreational vehicles.
Â
Police are searching for two suspicious males and a female that were seen by witnesses using a snowmobile. Two males had been seen earlier by residents on the stolen snowmobile leaving the scene.
Â
The Fort St. John RCMP have stepped up their patrols in the area around Charlie Lake but are asking anyone with information in regards to the thefts to contact the detachment at 250-787-8140 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
Â
They also provide some tips for the public to keep valuables safe:
Â
Keep valuables out of sight and keep blinds and drapes closed when someone is not home
Â
Don’t hang keys in areas that are visible from a window
Â
If possible, valuables should be kept in a safety deposit box at another location and some should have a person’s name and phone number engraved on them
Â
Record the serial number of valuable items and take photos of the items, as well as taking note of any identifiable markings
Â
Have a friend or family member check a person’s residence periodically while he/she is away and ensure the person collects mail and newspapers, along with clearing snow from the person’s doorway.
Â
People should make notes on suspicious people or vehicles in their neighbourhood
Â
If possible, have an alarm, notification system or timers for lights and electronics
