Junior District Curling Tournament to take place this weekend

The Peace Curling Association’s Junior District tournament will be taking place this weekend.

 

The tournament will be held at the Peace River Curling Club. The competition is between four junior mens’ teams and six junior womens’ teams.

The teams will be competing for four spots – two mens and two womens – in the Subway Alberta Junior Provincial Championships. The Championships will run from Jan. 5 to 9, 2011 and will take place at Edmonton’s Crestwood Curling Club.

Some relevant teams competing in this tournament are Devin Burkitt’s team, which will play its first game against Jordan Guenette and his squad from Grande Prairie. The game will take place Friday at 8 p.m.

On the women’s side, Carley Wolfe and her team from Peace River, Alta will also hit the ice Friday at 8 p.m., as the ladies will take on team Janais DeJong.

The last time a Peace Region team took home the Junior Alberta title was team Charley Thomas in 2006. The team eventually went on to win the World Championship.
