Peace River North MLA Pat Pimm has confirmed the province is putting $5.7 million towards the plan to put eight high school classrooms in the Pomeroy Sport Centre.

In a release from the province, Pimm says the plan is a creative solution by the Peace River North School District to open up student spaces at other schools.

Under the plan, School Distrct 60 will make room in elementary schools for full-day kindergarten programs, by moving Gr. 7 students to junior-secondary schools.

The eight new classrooms will accommodate 200 Gr. 8-12 students. Construction at the sport centre is set to begin next April, with the project’s completion scheduled for the beginning of the next school year.

Pimm also says that under the province’s nearly 145 million dollar capital commitment to full-day kindergarten, the local school district will receive funding for two new modular classrooms at two current school sites.
