Fort St. John RCMP are reminding the public that they are out in full force, patrolling school zones for speeders.
Since school is back in session and children are out in the playground, drivers should slow down in school areas, says Cpl. Steve Perret.
Perret says the speed limit, where posted, is 30 km/h between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on days when school is in session.
He says that although tickets have already been handed out, police generally give out warnings or reminders to drivers about the new speed limits, adding that it usually takes drivers a couple of weeks to become accustomed to new speed limits.
However, despite the couple of weeks of mainly warnings, anyone caught speeding in a school zone can face a hefty fine, starting at $173.
