The natural gas well just across the Alberta/BC border, northwest of Hythe, that blew out into flames on February 24th, is still burning.
The Edmonton Journal quotes a spokesman for the Energy Resources Conservation Board, as saying work has progressed on the damaged well, but repair crews believe the rupture may be far beneath the ground.
The spokesman says they’ve cleared the sub-structure, and exposed the wellhead, but they’re still not certain what caused the blowout.
The repair workers have brought in a relief well drilling rig, which is working about 600 metres away from the blowout site…
The Canadian Natural Resources Limited well is about eight kilometers from the nearest residence, and the Journal report puts it about 22 kiolometers from Hythe.
The ERCB’s air monitoring unit says, there is still no sign of any hydrogen sulphide, found in sour gas…and, the RCMP still says, there is nothing suspicious about the incident.
