Avalanche advisory issued for North Rockies

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

The Canadian Avalanche Centre is advising residents to use extra caution as they travel into the backcountry this weekend.

There’s a considerable risk of an avalanche at the tree line. The Centre has also issued a moderate warning at the alpine level, and below the tree line.

The North Rockies advisory claims the tree line is "probably the hot spot." It says that a weak layer of surface hoar remains in the snowpack, and in some places, it is susceptible to triggering.

Although the warnings are in place, the Avalanche Centre reports that there should be good visibility in the mountains this weekend.
