Signage investigation a no-go, for now

The City of Fort St. John will not be funding a $39,000 sign study.

City Council was presented with a staff report at Monday night’s council meeting.

It recommended the city fund the study, which would investigate and develop consistency within city-owned signs in Fort St. John.  It also suggested that the city use a $10,000 B.C. Tourism grant to help fund the project.

Only one company, Brand and Image, bid $42,000 (plus $2,300 travel) to conduct the signage strategy.

But Mayor Bruce Lantz says that estimate is a bit too steep.

City Manager Dianne Hunter explains the signage review is a result of the Tourism Strategy study, released last year.

But Mayor Lantz, and several other city councilors, suggested that there are cheaper ways of developing consistent signage in Fort St. John.

City Councilors defeated the motion. Instead, they will discuss the proposed study with the Fort St. John Tourism Board in the near future.
