Local Special Olympian Darlene Jakubowski has received another accolade, this time from an international organization.

Jakubowski won a gold and a silver medal at February’s World Winter Games, in Boise, Idaho.

This week, Darlene discovered that she will be winning another ‘Yes I Can’ award, this time from the International branch of the Council for Exceptional Children.

Each year, the CEC selects around 27 young people for their outstanding achievements in nine categories, ranging from athletics, to technology, to self-advocacy.  The 2010 award winners will be formally announced in March, 2010.

At the second annual Community Awards in June, Darlene was named Fort St. John’s female, youth Athlete of the Year.
